Therapy for people whose partner or spouse struggles with addiction in Philadelphia, PA
Start Healing with Therapy for Partners
Therapy with me may be helpful if your partner is disappearing in their addiction to substance/s.
Your partner is struggling and you have no clue what to do.
Your partner may also be struggling with trauma, anger outbursts, and other mental health concerns.
They may have unresolved childhood trauma they are repeating with you or may need help but have refused. They may struggle with avoidance or denial. You may have been complacent for a while, thinking you could “fix” them, but it’s becoming clearer that things aren’t going to change.
Healing is Possible
Therapy for Partners in Philadelphia Can Help.
I can help you create a plan, set boundaries from a place of peace and love rather than control, and ensure you’ll be okay regardless of what your partner does. I will help each person learn to take responsibility for themselves and their role in the relationship.
What is Therapy for Partners?
This is a time for you to get clear on what you need, what you want, and how to communicate and set boundaries with your beloved.
Therapy for partners or spouses of someone struggling with addiction and other associated challenges is a space just for you. It’s not about fixing your partner per se (although research shows it’s more likely for them to heal when you get your own help); it’s about supporting your own well-being, understanding your experiences, and learning skills to navigate common addiction-impacted relationship patterns. In these sessions, you’ll gain clarity, strengthen boundaries, and build confidence so you can make decisions that honor both yourself and your relationship.
What to Expect from Therapy for Partners
Making sense of your unique experience.
In therapy, you’ll have space to unpack the emotional impact of being with a partner who struggles with addiction, anger, avoidance, denial, gaslighting, chronic relapse, or other cycling dysfunction. You’ll explore feelings of frustration, overwhelm, and even trauma from broken trust or volatile patterns. Therapy helps you understand why you may feel stuck, overcome patterns, or understand why you’ve repeatedly chose similar partners, without judgment. This is about making sense of your experiences and growth- not blaming yourself.
Developing coping and boundaries setting skills.
You’ll learn practical tools to protect your well-being, manage stress, and navigate difficult interactions. Therapy can help you identify unhealthy patterns, set clear boundaries, and communicate effectively- even when your partner is unpredictable. For high-achieving women, this may also include strategies for resisting over-functioning tendencies, letting go of attempts to control how your partner experiences the “natural consequences” of their actions, and respecting your own needs in the relationship.
Making informed rather than reactive relationship choices.
Therapy provides a safe space to evaluate your relationship, strengthen your “self”, and get clarity on your options. You’ll explore when it’s healthy to stay, how to support without enabling, and when it may be time to set boundaries, take space, distance, or end a partnership. By strengthening your emotional health and self-awareness, you can make decisions from a grounded place, reduce guilt or pressure, and ensure you’re building healthy and balanced relationships.

I work with women, men, couples, and families who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and loss of self in their relationships or life roles.
If you want to learn healthy communication regardless of what other adults are doing, we will be a good fit. This includes family or relationship dysfunction, codependency, addiction, family drama, chronically choosing unhealthy partners, or the desire to grow after trauma.
